In this WP, we want to address 3 questions:
(a) What is the selectivity of the nets used to fish sole in the EEC? and how to improve it
(b) What are the fishing strategies of french netters and how do they vary across regions?
(c) How efficient can be spatial and temporal management measures in terms of selectivity of the fishery?
Scientist-Fishermen workshops will allow to discuss the fishing gears and fishing strategies used in the 2 regions. Analysis of the french observer program on a fine spatial scale will be presented as a basis for discussion.
Selectivity tests to compare the nets used in the different regions will be organised in 2016 and performed in 2017 in collaboration with the netters from the 2 regions. Prototype nets will also be tested aboard netters once validated in flume tanks with professional netters.
