In the context of the Fleet Renewal Plan; the feasibility of expanding the missions of RV Thalassa to the field of marine geoscience has been investigated. The purpose of this work is to define the technical feasibility of refitting the vessel, installing shallow and deepwater multibeam echosounders, a sub bottom profiler, a coring system (for a minimum depth of 15 m) and seismic equipment. In 2013, preliminary design work for the installation of this equipment was conducted. To estimate the impact of these new additions on the stream lines, digital simulation work was carried out at the Bassin d’Essais des Carènes hull testing tanks at the end of the year. In 2014, a scientific working group was set up to confirm feasibility and draw up a budget estimate. The conclusions are expected in early 2015.
