The Marine Geoscience Research Unit produces morpho-bathymetric maps, acoustic imaging maps, seabed structure maps available on the Sextant website. These maps provide geographical references data for the other specialities at Ifremer.
Data are available in Geotiff, ECW, Jpeg2000, ESRI, MapInfo, GML, KML format.
Marine Geosciences Research Unit contributes to the Marine Aggregates Catalogue, Mineral Resources section. This section shows data of marine sediments exploitation in the coastline area of the North Sea, the Channel and the Atlantic Ocean.
Ifremer is the scientific and technical project manager for the French program EXTRAPLAC for the delimitation of the outside limits of the continental shelf. It works in partnership with the SHOM, the IPEV and in convention with the Ministry of Ecology, Energy, of the Sustainable development and the Sea. The project is piloted by the General Secretary of the Sea .
The program has for objective the realization, the display and the argumentation of the files of the outside limits of the continental shelf for areas under French jurisdiction (Metropolitan France and Overseas France).Les files are submitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental shelf (CLCS) to the United Nations.
The cartographic documents produced within the framework of this project are available on the web portal Carto Géosciences Marines, in the catalogue Extraplac.
