Given the exceptional circumstances due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, the DSBS 2021 symposium will have a different format from usual. However, the organizing committee and the Deep-Sea Biology Society believe that, with the appropriate safety measures in place, it will be possible to hold a safe and rewarding meeting at the OCeanopolis Congress Centre on 12-17 September.
The Organizing Committee has therefore decided that DSBS 2021 will take place in a hybrid format, combining an onsite meeting for delegates who can travel (up to 350 persons), with an online meeting for those who cannot (up to 150 persons), while aiming to promote as much interaction as possible between the two types of delegates.
This has been a difficult decision to make and one that entails far more financial risk for the committee, but we firmly believe that this format is in the best interest of our community. Of course, we all know that we live in uncertain times and that it is very difficult to predict what the situation will be like in September. We hope you will all appreciate that there is a risk that a physical conference in Brest may ultimately not be possible, and we may need to move to a fully online meeting.
For now, we provide here some details concerning the format of the hybrid conference. As there will be onsite delegates in Brest as well as online delegates, there will be different registration fees for these two types of attendees :
- for delegates attending onsite in Brest, fees will be similar to what has usually been practiced during the past symposiums;
- for delegates attending online, fees will be lower and determined depending on the number of participants.
If the situation would not allow us to keep the onsite meeting, delegates will be proposed to change registration from onsite to online. In this case, the difference in the registration fee will be reimbursed.
We will of course keep you updated of evolution regarding the symposium program and proposed solutions.
