Observatory's features

Norwegian margin region has shown slope instability with evidence of major slides which if repeated could result in catastrophic damage to offshore oil and gas installations as well as indirect effects of tsunamis striking the coasts of the British isles and elsewhere. Special deep water habitats, such as coral reefs, are also an issue.
A major interest is on the Haakon Mosby Mud Volcano (HMMV).

Objectives

Objectives of Norwegian's observatory have been defined in the context of a better understanding of the influence thermohaline circulation changes on climate changes. More precisely, fluid flows from gas hydrates and geohazards are studied.
